Homemade Spaghettieis (German ice cream sundae)
"Every German kid’s favorite ice cream sundae: Spaghettieis! This ice cream sundae was and still is one of those things you only ever eat at the ice cream parlor. It is, however, surprisingly easy to make at home. The only thing you need is a potato ricer or spätzle press. If your ice cream is too firm, you can let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes or you can take it out of the tub, beat it with a hand mixer and put it back in the freezer for a few minutes. After that, it should work fine. For the original experience, I recommend portioning the whipped cream on the plates and freezing them for 30 minutes before you continue. That way, you’ll get delicious frozen cream pieces. If you don’t have the time (or patience) for that, the quick version is just as tasty."

Step 1/3
- 50 g heavy cream
- 20 g sugar
- 150 g strawberries
- large bowl
- hand mixer with beaters
- knife
- cutting board
- liquid measuring cup
- immersion blender
Whip the heavy cream with half of the sugar and set aside. For the strawberry sauce, hull strawberries and add to a liquid measuring cup. Add the other half of the sugar and blend with an immersion blender until smooth.
Step 2/3
- 300 g vanilla ice cream
- potato ricer
Scoop whipped cream on each of the plates. Don’t spread it out. Instead, pile it high onto the plates. For each serving, fill your potato ricer with 5.3 oz of vanilla ice cream. Push the ice cream on top of the whipped cream. It should look like real spaghetti.
Step 3/3
- 50 g white chocolate
- grater
Add the strawberry sauce on top of the ice cream. Garnish with grated white chocolate. It should look like parmesan cheese. Enjoy!
