"In England, white beans are typically baked in tomato sauce and eaten for breakfast. Since this way to start the day is less common in Germany, we decided to turn the British classic into a casserole by baking them with cheese and cooked ham. Eat it as a side dish for a hearty brunch, or enjoy as a simple main."

  • Step 1/3

    Preheat the oven to 200°C/390°F. Cut the ham into small pieces. Rinse the white beans under running water until the water runs clear. Finely dice the garlic and onion.
    • 75 g ham
    • 400 g canned white beans
    • 1 cloves garlic

    Preheat the oven to 200°C/390°F. Cut the ham into small pieces. Rinse the white beans under running water until the water runs clear. Finely dice the garlic and onion.

    Add some olive oil to a frying pan or ovenproof dish. Then add garlic and onion and sauté until glossy. Add the beans and tomato paste, and cook briefly. Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes and Worcestershire sauce and bring everything to a boil. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
