Ingredients

Cooking oil

Onion, finely chopped

Garlic cloves
1 tbsp
Grated ginger
1 cup
Red lentil
1 tsp
Cumin
1 tsp
coriander
1 tsp
Turmeric
¼ tsp
Cinnamon
¼ tsp
cayenne pepper ( optional)

Small can of tomato paste
2 tbsp
Fresh cilantro
4 cups
water with a cube of vegetable broth
Or
4 cups
Liquid vegetable broth
  • Step 1/5

    • 1 tbsp Cooking oil
    • 1 Onion, finely chopped
    • 4 Garlic cloves
    • 1 tbsp Grated ginger

    In a large pot, fry onion, garlic and ginger in oil until onions are soft.

    • 1 tsp Cumin
    • 1 tsp coriander
    • 1 tsp Turmeric
    • ¼ tsp Cinnamon
    • ¼ tsp cayenne pepper ( optional)

    Add all the spices and cook on low heat for couple of minutes to bring out the aromatics of the spices

    • 1 cup Red lentil
    • 2 tbsp Fresh cilantro
    • 4 cups water with a cube of vegetable broth
    • Or
    • 4 cups Liquid vegetable broth

    Add the 4 cups of vegetable broth, lentils and cilantro and bring to boil.

    Reduce heat and cook uncovered until lentil are fully cooked ( for about 20 minutes), stirring occasionally.

  • Step 5/5

    • 1 Small can of tomato paste

    Add the entire can of tomato paste and cook for another 5 minutes
