“The closest to my friend’s German grandpa’s mushroom sauce I could make. Served with noodles and pork chops usually.”

1½ lbs mushrooms
3 tbsp butter
1 cup red wine
1 tbsp cornstarch
1¼ cups vegetable broth
3 tbsp tomato paste

    • 3 tbsp butter
    • 1½ lbs mushrooms

    In a large skillet, saute the mushrooms in butter until tender.

  • Step 2/4

    • 1 cup red wine

    Add wine. Bring to a boil; cook until sauce is reduced by half, about 5 minutes.

    • 1¼ cups vegetable broth
    • 3 tbsp tomato paste
    • 1 tbsp cornstarch

    In a small bowl, combine the cornstarch, broth and tomato paste until smooth.

  • Step 4/4

    Add to mushroom mixture. Bring to a boil; cook and stir until thickened, about 2 minutes.
