Finely chop the onion and the garlic and add to a small pan with the olive oil. Fry on a medium heat for 5 minutes or until the onions turn translucent.
Add the can of chopped tomatoes with the tomato purée. Stir gently while adding the sugar, salt and pepper, to taste. Simmer for 10 minutes and turn off the heat.
Get a pan and half-fill it with cold water. Put on the hob and bring to the boil. Add the pasta and cook for 8 minutes or until the pasta softens. Add to the pasta sauce mix and stir well.
Finely grate the Parmesan and the cheddar into a bowl. Add in the finely chopped basil and parsley and mix together. Preheat the oven to 200*C (180*C fan).
Add the sauce into an ovenproof dish and top with the cheese and herb mixture. Put in the oven and bake for 7 minutes.
