Technical questions

1. How can I upload recipes to Kitchen Stories?
You can create, edit, and upload recipes directly in our app. To start with a recipe, click on the ‘Create’ button on the bottom menu bar.

2. I can’t see the ‘Create’ button.
Make sure to download the latest app version of Kitchen Stories. In older app versions, our recipe upload feature isn’t available.

3. Why can’t I upload my recipe?
Uploading recipes is currently only possible via app. To upload a recipe, you also need to register with us.

4. Why can’t I comment and like other recipes?
To use these functions, you need to register and set up a profile.

5. What do I need to consider when uploading a recipe?
Please only upload your very own original recipes. It’s not allowed to upload a recipe from another person, website, or other source. If your recipe is inspired by another one, feel free to share this in the ‘Chef’s Note’ at the end of the recipe.

6. Are there any restrictions for taking or uploading photos?
You’re only allowed to upload your own photos. Pictures that have been copied from the internet, or photographed from a cookbook may not be used. Pictures are displayed in portrait format in the app and in landscape format on internet browsers. Therefore it’s best to take photos with your dish in the center of the image. Make sure to not take close-up photos or in square format. You can move and choose the display detail of your photos, but it’s not possible to edit them with filters (yet).

7. Are there any restrictions for taking or uploading videos?
Just like photos, the copyright also applies to videos. Don’t upload any videos that aren’t yours. The maximum length of a video is 20 seconds. All videos are displayed in square format, but you can choose the framing of your videos yourself. If your video is longer than 20 seconds, you’ll get an error message. In this case, go into your photo app on your mobile phone, shorten the video, then select it again in the Kitchen Stories app to upload.

8. I can’t find a specific ingredient or utensil in the in-app list.
We’ve set up a list with common ingredients and utensils from which you can easily select the ones you need. In case there’s an ingredient or utensil missing, just type it in the given field and click on ‘Next’.

9. How can I upload photos or videos?
You can either take photos and videos while cooking, using our in-app camera feature, or upload them from your phone’s library after cooking.

10. How can I edit my recipes?
Once you’ve started a recipe, it will immediately get saved as a draft. You can edit recipe drafts as often as you like. Go to your profile and click on the recipe you want to edit – it will be marked as a draft. Once you’ve submitted a recipe, it’s not possible to edit it anymore.

11. Can I upload a recipe directly while cooking?
Yes, you can start a recipe directly while cooking. Take photos or videos with our built-in camera function. If you can’t or don’t want to enter all information while cooking, your recipe will be saved as a draft. This way, you can continue and finish the upload later.

12. Where do I find my own recipes?
You can find all of your recipes in your profile – whether they are published, drafts, or currently in review by the Kitchen Stories team.

13. Are all of my recipes public or can I also save them privately?
As soon as your recipe is published, all community members can see, like, or comment on them. Recipe drafts are private though – only you can see them. Please note that you can only work on 3 recipe drafts at a time.

14. How many recipes can I upload?
There’s no maximum of published recipes – you can upload as many as you want. However, you can only work on 3 recipe drafts at a time.

15. How long does it take to review and publish my recipe?
The review process can take up to a few days. If there are a lot of recipes being submitted, it can take longer, we appreciate your patience!

16. How do I notice that my recipe is live?
There’s a recipe overview in your profile. Every recipe is marked with its current state: ‘draft’, ‘in review’, or ‘revision needed’. If there are no recipe status mentions, your recipe is live!

17. Why can’t I see my recipe in the app?
Once you submit a recipe, it will take a few days for our team to double-check and publish your recipe. You can always find the status of your recipe in your profile recipe overview.

18. Why was my recipe rejected?
If the Kitchen Stories team detects a major mistake or notices that some of your photos or videos violate our copyright or any other rules, they will not be published. The status of your recipe will then change to ‘Revision needed’. In this case, you can edit and re-submit your recipe a maximum of three times.

19. Can I edit recipes after they are published?
Unfortunately, as soon as a recipe is published, it can't be edited. Please use the comment function to add any additional remarks. If you have a substantial change to make, please email us at hello@kitchenstories.com. We will adjust the recipe on a case by case basis. Thanks for your understanding!

20. Can I unpublish a recipe that’s already live?
Once a recipe is live, you can’t delete it on your own. If you wish for a recipe to be unpublished, please send an email to hello@kitchenstories.de.

21. Can I share my recipe via mail or social networks?
Yes, there’s a ‘Share’ button to every recipe. Click on it and share your recipe via messages, email, or social platforms.

22. How long are my recipes, photos, and videos being saved?
You recipes will remain online for an indefinite time, unless you request for them to be deleted.

23. Does Kitchen Stories use my recipes, photos, or videos on any other platforms?
The rights to your recipes, photos, and videos belong to you. But we’d love to share highlights of our community recipes on social platforms. If this is the case with one of your recipes, we’ll send you an email and ask for permission first.

24. How is my recipe displayed on Kitchen Stories?
There’s a module in our front feed displaying some of the community recipes. We’ll also consider featuring them when writing articles or setting up themed front feed modules. If we want to show your recipe in other languages, you’ll receive an email in which we’ll ask for your permission first.

25. Why can’t I see my recipe in other languages?
Currently, recipes are not automatically translated to other languages. If you want to translate your recipe yourself, just adjust the language settings of your profile and upload the recipe again. The language settings can be found by clicking on the wheel icon in your profile.
