“I was taught this recipe in oz, not grams (8oz rather than 225g) but the simplicity is still there. Such a fun recipe, and super easy if you’re just starting out or are baking with kids! ”

225 g margarine
225 g caster sugar
eggs
1 tbsp vanilla extract
195 g self raising flour
30 g cocoa powder
150 g icing sugar (for icing)
75 g margarine (for icing)
24 chocolate square (optional)

  • Step 1/10

    Preheat the oven to 200 degrees (C)

  • Step 2/10

    • 225 g margarine
    • 225 g caster sugar
    • bowl

    • hand mixer (optional)

    Add the margarine and sugar into a bowl and mix until creamy

  • Step 3/10

    • 1 tbsp vanilla extract

    Add eggs, one at a time, and vanilla extract and mix thoroughly

    • 195 g self raising flour
    • 30 g cocoa powder

    Mix in the flour and cocoa, a little bit at a time, especially if using a hand mixer to avoid too much mess

    Place approximately 1 tablespoon of cake batter into each cake case. If there’s some left over, either top up the cake cakes a little more, or grab a couple extra cases and fill those

    Pop your tray in the oven and set a timer for 15 minutes. If you have more than one tray, you might have to swap them over half way through. After the 15 minutes is up, pick one of the cakes and check it’s ready by sticking a knife down the middle, of it comes out clean, they’re ready, if not, place back in for another 5 minutes.

    Once they are out of the oven, they need to be left to cool before icing them. This can take approximately 30 minutes

    • 150 g icing sugar (for icing)
    • 75 g margarine (for icing)

    The make the icing, add the margarine and icing sugar into a bowl and mix

    Now just add the icing to the cake. This can me done with a spoon or an piping bag

    Add a chocolate square for some extra flare and they’re ready to be served. Enjoy!
