Jellyfish meat is one that looks like it packs a lot of collagen and nutrients for sure, and unsurprisingly, it does. It's been around for a long time of course: You can have it dried, raw, aged, fresh, seasoned with a tangy sauce, spicy sauce, sweet–sour sauce, or even with a cold cucumber soup (as seen on DW Food by Chef Gennaro Esposito). Which is not only super creative, but also goes to show the versatility of this heavy-hitter food of the future.

Why Is Interest in Jellyfish Growing?

Why is there a bit more interest than usual in jellyfish now? We believe it has a lot to do with the expansion of a collective food palate, the need to find new resources for sustainable food, and simply having the creative freedom to experiment with how we take care of our bodies. There are a lot of external circumstances that affect our wellbeing in today's world, and sources of proteins like collagen are crazy valuable. It's already been popular in most Asian countries for a long time, and the widely believed health benefits are helping with high blood pressure and assisting your digestive system in addition to strengthening your bone health (arthritis).

Sustainability and the Risks of Overuse

It's still important to have the global consciousness that any resource is open to exhaustion when treated poorly and taken excessively, but jellyfish populations are not suffering so far from the increase in interest. It does take a lot of expertise in jellyfish themselves since there are harmful species, especially extremely venomous and potentially lethal ones that are avoided to source (like box jellyfish). Still, considering a resource as a "food of the future" means that this expertise will expand to many chefs and enthusiasts alike.

Jellyfish: Nature’s Regenerative Marvels

It's hard not to trust jellyfish to have a positive impact on your body, since jellyfish themselves have a superb regenerative lifecycle, some living on borderline immortality.. If you are what you eat, imagine the possible benefits of having a good portion of jellyfish every now and then.
