Döner is sold in huge quantities across Germany every day. So much so that even the tiniest ripples in the döner industry is felt throughout the nation, be it döner prices, or menu portions, or even a new type of döner being rolled out (like Karl’s strawberry döner). Now, another issue that needs to be resolved is the wages for döner workers, specifically workers at the Birtat döner facility in Murr, near Ludwigsburg, Baden-Württemberg

The management has refused a collective agreement so far. The  negotiations between the union bargaining committee from NGG ( Nahrung-Genuss-Gaststätten) and Birtat has been taking place since March. However there is now a halt in discussions after the fourth round of discussions that took place early July.

Döner costs are struggling to keep stability

Birtat’s management has refused collective agreements so far, hence the strikes have been fueled with more at stake for the workers. NGG is demanding a raise of €375, with the main goal being a wage threshold that starts at €3,000.

While it is unknown at this point if an agreement will be held between the union and Birtat, even a positive conclusion might point to a raise in döner prices for consumers. It’s even expected to face a döner shortage in stands if the strikes continue. It has been previously mentioned in the media that döner prices might hit the €10 mark in the near future, which would follow an upward trend in the already rising prices.
