Fast Food Ranking: These Are the Most Popular Fast Food Restaurants in Germany
McDonald's Takes Last Place in Survey
Fast food has become an integral part of Germany's food culture, just like in many parts of the world. For a long time, McDonald’s was considered the undisputed leader, but in recent years, the fast-food landscape has undergone significant changes. There's now much more competition and alternative, specialized offerings.
This shift is also reflected in the ranking of the most popular chains. A recent study yields a surprising result: McDonald's no longer holds the top spot. Instead, another provider has taken the lead.
From Leader to Last Place
For a long time, McDonald’s dominated the fast-food scene in Germany. However, a new survey has revealed that the American burger giant has lost popularity. The reasons are varied: competitors have caught up, the offerings are more diverse and exciting, and consumer demands for quality and sustainability have increased.
The New Favorite
In the latest survey by Wer kennt den Besten, Dean & David has emerged as the most popular fast-food chain of 2025. With a perfect score of 5.0 points, the brand leads the ranking, surpassing established giants like Subway and Five Guys. It is particularly praised for its excellent food quality, the wide range of healthy options, and the outstanding hygiene standards in its stores.
The Rankings at a Glance
Subway takes second place with 4.34 points, maintaining a broad customer base with its customizable sandwiches. Right behind it is Five Guys, with 4.15 points, known especially for its burgers and fries. The remaining spots are filled by Domino’s Pizza with 4.07 points and Starbucks with 3.66 points.McDonald’s, on the other hand, lands in last place. With just 2.00 points, the world’s largest fast-food chain has a lot of ground to make up if it wants to compete at the top again. Notably, chains that focus on customizable food and drinks are thriving.
Reasons for the Change
The fast-food market in Germany is becoming increasingly competitive. Established brands like McDonald’s can no longer rest on their laurels. Their image is also suffering due to the growing awareness of quality, health, and sustainability. Newer chains and concepts that emphasize personalization are better able to adapt and keep up with the changing demands.
The future remains exciting: How will giants like McDonald’s respond to these changes, and what does the future of the fast-food world hold? Time will tell.
