Rising Ice Cream Prices: Up to 3 € per Scoop
Why Ice Cream Will Be More Expensive in 2025
The first warm days have arrived, and just like every year, long lines are forming in front of ice cream parlors. After all, what better way to enjoy a sunny stroll than with a scoop of creamy ice cream?
But that indulgence is becoming noticeably more expensive. A few years ago, a handful of loose change was enough to buy a scoop – today, that’s no longer the case. Ice cream prices have been rising steadily for years, and in 2025, the sweet treat is more expensive in Germany than ever before. On average, a scoop now costs 1.72 €, with prices reaching up to 3 € in some cities. But why?
Where Is Ice Cream the Most Expensive?
While the national average stands at 1.72 € per scoop, prices vary significantly by region. Ice cream is particularly expensive in southern Germany: In cities like Munich and Stuttgart, prices often exceed 2 € per scoop. In Berlin, many parlors charge 2.50 € or more.
Tourist hotspots see the highest prices, with scoops costing up to 3 €. Meanwhile, rural areas and smaller towns offer more affordable options. In parts of Thuringia, Saxony, and Lower Saxony, a scoop can often be found for less than 1.50 €. Saxony-Anhalt currently boasts the lowest prices, with an average of just 1.20 € per scoop.
Why Prices Are Rising
There are several reasons for the price hikes:
More Expensive Ingredients: The costs of milk, sugar, and nuts have risen significantly in recent years. Pistachios and vanilla—two of the most popular flavors—have seen massive price increases, directly impacting what customers pay.
Higher Energy Costs: Producing, storing, and freezing ice cream requires a lot of energy. It’s not just households struggling with rising electricity costs—ice cream parlors are also feeling the impact, leading to higher prices.
Rising Labor Costs: Increases in the minimum wage and higher wages in the hospitality industry mean that many ice cream parlors are facing greater staffing expenses—costs that are ultimately passed on to customers.
Is Ice Cream Becoming a Luxury?
With prices continuing to rise, many wonder if ice cream will soon be a luxury treat. Experts predict that this trend could persist as long as ingredient and energy costs remain high.
Still, one thing is certain: A scoop from the local ice cream parlor remains an essential part of spring and summer.
