Pesticides Found – Recall of Blueberries at Penny
Consumption May Be Harmful to Health
Penny is recalling the “Marktliebe Kulturheidelbeeren” in the 200g pack and the “XXL Kulturheidelbeeren” in the 500g pack due to the discovery of a harmful pesticide. The products were sold in Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, and Saarland.
The pesticide found, "Phosmet," is banned under European law. It is highly toxic and is primarily used in agriculture to combat insects and similar pests. Those who want to avoid pesticides entirely should opt for organic (BIO) products.
How can I identify the affected blueberries?
The two blueberry products affected by the Penny recall are from the company Port International European Sourcing GmbH in Hamburg and can be identified by the following labels:
Marktliebe Kulturheidelbeeren
Package size: 200g
Batches: L-0805, L-0903, and L-0904
GGN: 4056186196262
Origin: Chile
Variety: Legacy
XXL Kulturheidelbeeren
Package size: 500g
Batches: L-0903 and L-0904
GGN: 4056186196262
Origin: Chile
Variety: Legacy
How can I return the blueberries?
Customers who purchased these products can return the blueberries to their local Penny store and will receive a refund even without the receipt. Those who have already consumed the blueberries should monitor their health for any changes in the next few days and, if in doubt, consult a doctor and get tested for pesticide poisoning.
According to Penny, the remaining affected products have already been removed from sale.
