March had a lower inflation rate, but expensive food
Inflation rate drops to 2.2, food prices soar to 2.9 percent more
Consumers have been struggling with the pricing market of March, which is by now somewhat annual. The changing prices are affected by the seasons and produce, hence March has seen many conflicting price surges and drops.
Supermarkets, more specifically shopping for food, have been expensive throughout March. The market prices for daily shopping have gone up to 2.9 percent more expensive compared to the other years.
High prices for food & services, lowered inflation on energy
Monthly spending of consumers has dropped in energy prices, which is the good news of March. Energy fell by 2.8 percent compared to last year. Experts however, are warning consumers to not rely on these drops, since the market is bound for change at inconsistent intervals.
The new government for Germany, as it forms steadily, is working on the subject as well. Taxes on restaurants and bars are aimed to be dropped to 7 percent from 19.
All in all, according to the Ifo institute the inflation rate mark is likely to stay above 2 percent in the coming months. Although there is some form of relief for amenities, shopping for food and eating out is not likely to get the relief that is needed soon.
