“Bicicletta” instead of Aperol? An Italian Classic is Becoming this Year’s Trending Aperitif
The drink for anyone who loves a truly refreshing sip
For many people, the Aperol Spritz is a staple of the warmer months. As soon as the first rays of spring sunshine appear, the bright orange drink seems to pop up on tables everywhere. But even classics eventually face some competition. Last year, the Basil Spritz was everywhere, and for 2026 a new favorite is already emerging: the Bicicletta.
This Italian aperitif is considered a refreshing alternative to the classic spritz and could best be described as a kind of upgraded wine spritzer. Light, uncomplicated, and perfect for warm evenings on the balcony, by the lake, or in the garden.
The “Bicicletta” – as easy as riding a bike
The Bicicletta is intentionally simple and is often seen as a fresher alternative to the traditional spritz.
For one glass, you only need a few ingredients:
‣ 80 ml dry white wine
‣ 40 ml Campari (or another bitter liqueur)
‣ about 60 ml soda water
‣ 2 orange slices for garnish
The drink is served in a tumbler glass filled with ice. Preparation couldn’t be easier: add the white wine and Campari to the glass, fill with ice, top with soda water, and stir briefly. Finish with the orange slices for the classic garnish.
Even the cocktail’s name hints at its simplicity. “Bicicletta” means bicycle in Italian. Mixing the drink is meant to be so easy that it’s practically “as easy as riding a bike.”
A classic picking up speed
Aperol Spritz remains a classic, but this year the Bicicletta is gearing up and bringing a new, simple variation to the aperitif glass. With just a few ingredients and a quick preparation, it’s exactly the kind of drink warm summer evenings call for: easy, refreshing enjoyment.
And for anyone still searching for more sparkling summer drinks, it’s worth revisiting some favorites from recent years. How about a Rosé Spritz with white peaches and basil, a fruity Limoncello Spritz, or last summer’s trending drink, the Basil Spritz? Or simply stick with the classic – after all, there’s a reason it became one.
