Asparagus season starts mid-April and it’s already a good idea to get prepared to enjoy the vegetable the best way. There are common kitchen mistakes that most people make while preparing asparagus. This includes small mishaps during the preparation to some false cooking methods. 

How to avoid common asparagus mistakes in the kitchen

Starting with the preparation; especially for white asparagus, it is important to peel it stronger than you would to green asparagus. White asparagus has a much more woodier consistency and they should all be peeled off to avoid a firm texture. Green asparagus usually only needs the trim at the bottom of the bark!

Then, onto cooking asparagus, in hot water; sugar is much needed in this case. Adding a pinch of sugar into the boiling water to avoid the bitter taste most dishes end up with. In addition, make sure you always boil them upright, to have an evenly cooked vegetable in the end. The soft edge cooks faster than the firm one, so just the steam of the water should be enough.
