    • 1 onion
    • 3 cloves garlic
    • 2 tbsp olive oil (for frying)

    Place olive oil in a pot at medium-low temperature and wait until hot. Add garlic and onion and sauté until translucent.

    • 1 canned pinto bean
    • 3 tbsp tomato paste
    • 1 tbsp ground cumin
    • ½ tbsp chili powder
    • 1 tbsp smoked paprika powder

    Add cumin, chili powder, smoked paprika and tomato paste to the pot and let it fry for three minutes. Add pinto beans and let it fry for another three minutes.

    • 2 pinches salt
    • 1 pinch pepper
    • 1 l water (warm)
    • liquid measuring cup

    Slowly add water into the pot. Add bay leaves, salt and pepper and let it simmer until half of the water has been absorbed.

    Taste the stew and add more spices if necessary.
