A chef's knives is ideal for chopping nuts. It prevents your knuckles from touching the cutting board when chopping. Large nuts like walnuts can be cut in half. For smaller nuts like pistachios move the knife up and down and finely chop them. To chop round nuts like hazelnuts, it's best to secure the nuts with your hand and then chop roughly.
