"Would love for this to be in the cookbook! If the bread is not fully cooked through after a couple of minutes, or if it is too soggy in the middle, that is because it has absorbed too much of the mixture."

  • Step 1/5

Lightly beat the eggs and the milk in a dish. Season with salt and pepper.

  • Step 2/5

Dip both bread slices in the mixture, making sure that the mixture is soaked up and that the bread has enough mixture on both sides of either slice.

  • Step 3/5

Heat a frying pan over a medium heat. Add the butter and swirl it around the pan.

  • Step 4/5

When the butter begins to foam or bubble, put the bread (which has soaked up the mixture) in the pan and fry on both sides (1-2 minutes on each side or until golden brown).

  • Step 5/5

Transfer to a plate. Can be served with bacon, sausages, eggs or a fruit compote.
