Toast bread goes through Stiftung Warentest: Edeka and Aldi on top
Bread on the shelf got officially rated
Toast bread is a staple in almost every household. The star of abendbrot, a good breakfast, a delicious grilled cheese,or even just a quick snack; toast bread is unbeaten. Stiftung Warentest also agrees, and has put toast bread consumers buy from the supermarkets to their quality test. The top two brands came from Edeka and Aldi, both leading supermarkets in Germany.
How good is the toast bread at the supermarket?
In total, 24 different toast brands went through the quality test. The test was done to determine the quality of scent, aroma, appearance, mouthfeel, nutritional values, and even if it contains harmful bacteria or not.
The clear winner of the 24 supermarket breads was Edeka’s “Gut & Günstig Vollkorn Toast” that received a “good” grading in almost every category it went through. In second place, Aldi’s “Goldähren Vollkorn Toast” followed with also a “good” rating overall.
The least successful in the test were Mestemacher’s “Bio Weizen Vollkorn Toastbrot, Bio” and Blumenfelder Mühle’s “Bio Vollkorntoast”, which could not go beyond the gradings “satisfactory” and “sufficient”.
