Ready for Berlin's Ultimate Christmas Adventure?
who hasn't been there? The pre-Christmas season arrives, the lights switch on, and suddenly you're faced with an impossible choice! Berlin is practically bursting with Christmas markets, but which one is truly worth your money—and your time? We've done the grand mulled wine tour for you and compiled the highlights of the best markets.
Fairytale & Romantic: Palace Vibes
Let's start with the undisputed Majesty: the Christmas Market at Charlottenburg Palace. It's not called the city's most beautiful for nothing! The enchanting Baroque setting and the lovingly uniform wooden stalls create an atmosphere that is simply unforgettable. Here, you'll find over 100 international artisans and can feast on specialties like deer burgers and chimney cake (Baumstriezel). It's perfect for a romantic date or a cozy evening, accompanied by brass bands strolling through the market. By the way, entry here is free!
Sporty & Spectacular: Action in Mitte
If you're looking for a bit of action, head downtown! At the Rotes Rathaus, the only ice rink at a Berlin Christmas market awaits you – time to lace up your skates! Besides historic carousels (a true nostalgia trip!), you can watch Santa Claus himself swing across the market on a high wire. Speaking of Mitte: at Alexanderplatz, you’ll find a roller-skating rink instead, a massive Ore Mountain pyramid, and the notorious "Partyhaus vom Nikolaus," where the celebration lasts until 2 AM.
Exclusive & Stylish: High-Class Treats
Do you love refined craftsmanship and a dash of luxury? Then the WeihnachtsZauber at Gendarmenmarkt is your destination. It's known for its high-quality artisans (many are in the heated tent!) and upscale gastronomy. Sure, it costs a 2-Euro entry fee (it's free Mon–Fri from 12 PM–3 PM), but the extensive stage program and the festive mood make it worthwhile. Or how about the premiere at KaDeWe? Here you can try unique dishes like Korean food and enjoy live acts from artists from the Bar jeder Vernunft.
Thrill & Adrenaline: Fairground Fun
For everyone who loves the smell of cotton candy and thrills, we have two tips: the Berliner Wintertraum (Winter Dream) in Schöneweide is a proper Christmas funfair. With the 85-meter FreeFall-Tower and the Giant Propeller, pure adrenaline is guaranteed. Alternatively, the Winterwelt at Potsdamer Platz attracts visitors with the largest mobile toboggan run in all of Europe and rustic après-ski vibes in the Gösser Alm-Hütte.
No matter if you enjoy the mulled wine for 5 Euros at the palace or the bratwurst for 6 Euros at Potsdamer Platz: prices have remained stable, and all markets are prioritizing your safety. So, grab your loved ones and find your perfect Christmas market moment in Berlin!
