Stiftung Warentest puts olive oil to test again: Where is good olive oil today?
Supermarket shelves might be full of olive oil below high quality
Stiftung Warentest, the German consumer organisation that aims to test products for consumers in an unbiased way, has put olive oil to test again. The organisation evaluated 25 olive oil brands to their quality test and only 4 bottles got the grade “good” in the end.
Results for olive oil in the Stiftung Warentest quality control
In total, 25 bottles were tested. From the brands that went through the evaluation, only 4 received the grade “good”. 8 brands received “deficient” for their taste and quality, while no brand took home a level 1 grading for their taste. Aldi’s olive oils “Gut Bio” and “Bellasan” get grade 5 for their taste which is the lowest grade for taste and quality.
Consumers can access the full test via Stiftung Warentest’s page and get a detailed look. The reasons for this year’s low quality olive oils is most likely due to price pressures on manufacturers which explains the drastic changes between the years.
