St. Patrick’s Day: Traditional foods to celebrate the green
One of the greenest days ever comes with a rich menu
St. Patrick’s Day is today, the 17th of March, 2026! Irish people all around the world who observe this feast for the saint celebrate the day by wearing green, having a green beer, going to the parade, and feasting with great food. The menu for St. Patrick’s Day is mainly Irish, and full of cultural flavor.
What are traditional St. Patrick’s Day foods?
The most traditional menu item on St. Patrick’s Day is the green beer or a classic tall boy Guinness beer. To celebrate further, there are still traditional dishes both for a big dinner, and to accompany beer. If the beer is not on the side, it surely can be in the food itself, like the traditional Guinness pot pie, with an intense Guinness gravy.
The big meals of the day also include Irish stew (with lamb), a Guinness beef pie with scones, or the famous corned beef with cabbage.
For breakfast, Irish fry, a breakfast that includes brown soda bread, fried tomatoes, fried bacon, and black pudding. It’s up to your own celebration to have Irish coffee or simply tea with it as well. Perhaps buttery scones and coffee would go better together though!
Turning these meals into a feast is the best way to celebrate the day, and of course, wishing the luck of the Irish upon all those who celebrate together!
