Does eating more garlic make people smell more attractive?
Garlic lovers to benefit from an old study
Fruit, vegetables, snacks, drinks; they all bring more to the human body than one may think. Aside from the nutritional values (or the lack of it) that the food we consume have, there is also another layer to keep in mind: Smell. Those of us who cook a lot sure do know about the kitchen smell on their hair or clothes while cooking, but what about the scents that stay with the body after we eat?
One study has conducted an experiment that is especially beneficial to garlic lovers that might prove that eating more garlic, is in fact, sexy.
How can the food I eat make me smell attractive?
The food we eat is not only processed through the gut, but also makes its way to the sweat glands. Usually our mood and health plays a big role in the way our natural odour develops. Every person has their own unique smell, yes, but the external (or internal) factors also have a role to play on this base scent.
Fruit and vegetables that are high in sulphurous compounds (brussel sprouts, cauliflower, etc.) for instance, will return as a not-so-pleasant odour. Much like a heavy carb diet that produces the least sexy scent out there.
One hero is, however, garlic! The study mentioned above has tested the theory of garlic producing an attractive scent in men and the results were quite positive for garlic lovers.
Between a group of men who consumed a lot of garlic, a group who consumed garlic supplements, and a group that did not consume much garlic; the group who consumed the most garlic had the most attractive scent after a week of trial. Followed by the supplemented group, and finally the group who had the least amount of garlic had the least attractive in the end.
