cookbook+ is our handy new feature that lets you collect your favorite recipes from around the web and save them into organized, themed collections—accessible from all your devices via the Kitchen Stories app. As you get to know it, we know you might have some questions. We hope the FAQs below help you out, but if there’s anything else you’d like to know, get in touch with us at hello@kitchenstories.de

1. Can I change the recipe I’ve saved from the web?

The recipes you save from platforms other than Kitchen Stories function as stored ‘copies’—that do not reflect any changes. If the original recipe page changes and you want to save an updated version of the recipe, it first needs to be removed from your cookbook and then saved again.

2. I changed the servings on the original recipe page, will these changes be reflected when I save it to my cookbook?

Due to technical limitations, we are not able to import these changes. Rest assured, we’re working hard in the meantime to make sure cookbook+ can support such features in the future.

3. What happens if I save the same recipe multiple times?

As is already the case with Kitchen Stories recipes, a recipe you save from the web will only be saved once to a single cookbook, but can be saved across multiple cookbooks.

4. Hmm, my app says ‘This page cannot be saved.’

There are a few cases when this might happen. Here’s why:
- the page is not set up as a recipe page, even though it might look like it is (e.g. article).
- collections of recipes cannot be saved—as we can’t extract the individual recipes.
- the recipe is published in a format we don’t support. To save the recipes to your cookbooks, we are relying on open web standards which are machine-readable format. If the website does not support this or has customized the formats, we may either only be able to partially support it, or not support it at all.

5. Can I use all the regular Kitchen Stories features for recipes I’ve saved from other websites?

There are a number of differences. Here are the features cookbook+ currently does not support (but watch this space, we’re working on it):
- interaction: Commenting and adding a photo of the cooked meal. This is because your saved recipes are private and in this case are not viewable by the community.
- limited sharing: We are only allowed to support sharing of the original URL, but not as a Kitchen Stories URL
- media: Step images and videos of external websites are not supported as they are not available in any open format. We’ll be looking into this for the future.
- servings: Changing servings is currently not supported
Save to shopping list: All features work, with two exceptions: 1) the recipe cannot be accessed from the shopping list 2) the ingredient amount will appear together with the ingredient name

6. Can I use cookbook+ on my web browser?

cookbook+ is currently only accessible via mobile apps—but we’re working on making the feature available on your web browser very soon, plus other even handier integrations!

7. Are my cookbooks private?

Yes, saved recipes from an external website may only be saved privately, meaning they are not viewable on your profile to other users.

8. When I try to access a certain website, it launches its app instead...

This will occur when you are trying to access a website whose app you have installed on your device. We are working on a way to prevent this reaction, but for now, please follow these recommended steps:

iOs: Unfortunately, as of now, the only possibility is to de-install the relevant app.

9. I can’t seem to find cookbook+...

If billing is not supported for your account, device, or country, you may not be able to see the feature at all. If you are using multiple devices and have an active subscription, you will still be able to use the features on all devices even though billing may not be supported on one of the devices in particular.

10. What happens if I cancel cookbook+?

Cancelling your subscription will lock any recipes you've saved using the feature and you will no longer be able to access them. If you choose to renew your subscription, the recipes that you've saved in the past will be accessible again.
