Utensils

2 pots (with lid), fork, wooden spoon, knife, cutting board, bowl

  • Step 1/6

Start off by preparing the rice by simply using 2 bags of ‘cook in a bag rice’ adding it to 250ml of boiling water and wait around 10 minutes. At the same time boil the other 350ml of water in another pot (add the vegetable seasoning) and drop in any vegetable that you are using. I have used a ready made mix of fresh carrots, peas and beans. They also take about 10 minutes to cook - ensuring that the carrots are soft as they tend to take a little bit longer to soften.

  • Step 2/6

Start cooking the steak mince in a little bit of oil, adding half of an onion cut in pieces which will add an amazing flavour to the meat. Also season with a pinch of pepper, salt and parsley.

  • Step 3/6

Step the mince aside to ensure that the oil leftovers drip in the bowl - I do this to ensure that the tomato sauce doesn’t become too greasy.

  • Step 4/6

By this time the rice should be fully cooked. All you have to do is cut the bags open and get the rice out for it to dry out. You can season it with some salt, parsley or garlic granules - all depends on your preference. Dish up the rice on 4 separate plates/bowls.

  • Step 5/6

Get the Dolmio sauce out and put in the pan - cook till piping hot. I used the Dolmio cheese and tomato sauce which just works perfect for me. While cooking the sauce add the grated cheese and stir till smooth. You can also make your own home made sauce e.g. adding chopped tomatoes, milk, melted butter, grated Parmesan cheese and flour together.

  • Step 6/6

Add the previously cooked steak mince and vegetables and you’re done! You can either mix the rice in with the sauce or serve the sauce on top of the rice. Sprinkle with grated cheese. Serve with a garlic and cheese pitta bread.
