  • Step 1/4

    • 8 oranges
    • cutting board
    • knife

Cut ends of 4 oranges and carefully cut the peel off of the fruit. Slice the peel into approx. 6-mm/¼-in. pieces, then finely dice.

  • Step 2/4

    • fine sieve
    • pot
    • bowl
    • slotted spoon

Add diced peel to a pot of water over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil and let cook for approx. 5 – 10 min., or until diced peel is completely soft. Remove peel with a slotted spoon and drain in a sieve set over a bowl.

  • Step 3/4

    • 1200 g sugar
    • 500 ml water

Add sugar and water to the drained empty pot. Halve peeled oranges and juice them into the pot. Bring to a boil, stirring often, until sugar has dissolved. Return diced peel back to the pot, reduce heat to low, and let simmer for approx. 10 min., or until peel is slightly translucent. Strain.

  • Step 4/4

    • sugar
    • baking sheet

Toss peel in more in sugar, if desired. Spread the candied peel onto a baking sheet in an even layer and allow to dry for approx. 4 hrs. or overnight. Store candied orange peel in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Enjoy!

  • Enjoy your meal!
